The 26th International Academic Music Competition “Jūrmala 2025” in organ performance will take place from June 10 to 14 at the Jūrmala Music Secondary School’s Dubulti Concert Hall and the Dubulti Evangelical Lutheran Church. This is the second time the academic music competition “Jūrmala 2025” is being held in the organ performance category, and it holds special significance in the Latvian context, as it is the only organ competition in the country.
The competition is intended for students of primary and secondary level music schools, aged between 7 and 22. This year, 27 young organists have applied, coming from Jūrmala, Rīga, Cēsis, Rēzekne, Saldus, Jēkabpils, Valmiera, Jaunpiebalga, as well as from several Estonian cities (Viljandi, Keila, Tallinn) and Warsaw, Poland.
The young organists will be evaluated by an international jury, which includes Michal Novenko (organ professor at the Prague Conservatory, Czech Republic), Professor Larisa Bulava, Professor Roberts Hansons, and Kristīne Adamaite.
A special highlight of the competition will be the jury’s concert, which will take place on June 11 at 19:00 at the Dubulti Evangelical Lutheran Church.
An added value of this year’s competition is the opportunity for participants to improve their instrumental skills through masterclasses led by members of the jury.
Since 1995, the International Academic Music Competition “Jūrmala” has become an integral and significant part of Jūrmala’s cultural life. The competition serves as a platform for young musicians to develop their professional skills and receive expert evaluation from professionals in the field.
The competition is organized by the Jūrmala Music Secondary School in cooperation with the Jūrmala Municipality and the Jūrmala Music Secondary School Support Fund.
